In July 1922, a specially commissioned Foxford travel blanket was presented to General Michael Collins to mark his appointment to Commander-in-chief of the newly established Irish Army. In August of the same year, his armoured car was ambushed at Béal Na Bláth and he was killed. The blanket, which had been in the car with him, was recovered at Shanakiel Hospital by Nurse Nora O’Donaghue and later donated to the National Museum.
Foxford is pleased to have collaborated with Michael Collins House, Clonakilty, County Cork to reproduce this historic throw. The warm and durable throw is woven in the traditional Foxford check pattern using a vintage 4-ply yarn in olive, gold, and white. It features a bespoke Michael Collins House label and is finished with a traditional roll fringe, making it a timeless addition to any home.
